About Maponya Mall

Officially opened by former South African President Nelson Mandela in 2007. Maponya Mall is a first class mall for the people of Soweto. Envisioned by Mr Richard Maponya who wished to construct a shopping centre in Soweto for 26 years to make life much more efficient for the community and to give the people something they could call their soul.

Situated in the hub of Soweto, Klipspruit. The location is central for all surrounding townships. This 70 000m2 diamond layout mall is home to over a 170 shops, a vast array of flagship stores, local and international brands and full governmental facilities that would make life easier in the community.

The mall has uniquely identified court areas made for easy shopping navigation and as well as exceptional access for both motorists and walk-ins.

Maponya Mall does not only provide great shopping experiences but also includes a choice of great eateries, take aways and designated exhibition facilities which are occasionally utilised by national brands for their launches.

It is truly a great place to enjoy your day as we aspire to provide the best service for our communities.

Exhibit at Maponya Mall

Maponya Mall has two clusters of shoppers. The majority of shoppers (80%) are black females between the ages of 30 to 40 years and classified as LSM 5 to 7.

They are household decision-makers and are described as ‘Neighbourhood Sistas’ who have dependants living with them.

Of these, 53% visit the mall because it is conveniently located to where they live, for its food facilities and government service centres.
