Maponya Mall management can confirm that a serious incident occurred outside the mall premises on the evening of Wednesday, 13 August 2025, which has resulted in damage to several vehicles and tragic loss of life

“Our thoughts are with those who have been harmed in this tragic incident and with their families. We do not condone any form of violence in or around our property,” said Jo Morobe, Centre Manager at Maponya Mall.

The safety and well-being of everyone in the vicinity of Maponya Mall remain our highest priority, and our security presence at key points within the mall and at all entry points has been reinforced. 

We continue to actively engage all relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement and local authorities, to ensure the matter is addressed swiftly and responsibly, and we call on members of the community to remain vigilant, calm and report any suspicious or unlawful activity, and cooperate fully with authorities so that those responsible for acts of violence can be held accountable.
